Obituary for Carmen Gingras (Lacroix)

Gingras, Carmen (née Lacroix) 1937 - 2022

Carmen passed away peacefully at Au Chateau in Sturgeon Falls on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at age 85.  Pre-deceased by her husband of 61 years, Roger Gingras, and her son Robert (Bob) Gingras (Carrie) of Winnipeg.

In her lifetime, she often moved with her husband and family and made the best of every situation. Sturgeon Falls was not her original home (she was born in Hull, Quebec), but it became her home in many ways. For over 20 years, she and Roger went to Lakeland, Florida, for most of the winter to enjoy the sun. She had many friends there as well.

Carmen had an undeniable spirit and Joie de vivre. She was known by many and loved by more. Her kindness and giving nature were only surpassed by her insistence that nobody was 'below her,' helping many freely, often to her husband's chagrin. Carmen lived largely and loved fiercely. She could be counted on when you needed her. While the last number of years were complex for her, she still found time to regularly visit people that were, in her words, worse off than she was. She wandered around the hospital while in Long-Term care, sharing coffee and a cigarette or chatting with just about everybody. Then, moving on to the Au Chateau, she continued her ways until her health kept her down and bound to her wheelchair. Yet still, battling dementia, she was a sunny ray on a gloomy day for many.

She is lovingly remembered by her children Diane Lachapelle (Noel), Monique Gilkinson (Ric), Barbara Rusk (Bradley), and Bill Gingras (Anne), along with her grandchildren Darren Lachapelle (Stephanie), Mark Lachapelle (Roisin), Jamie-Lynn Gilkinson, Kimberly Gilkinson, Christopher Gilkinson (Kayla), Adam Gingras ( Georgia), Ryan Gingras, and Jennifer Dufreane (Ryan), Bryan White and Amy Rusk (Robert) Alex Gingras, and Marc-Andre Gingras (Elizabeth Keating)) She is also fondly remembered by her great-grandchildren Emily and Leah Lachapelle, Elliot, Ethan, Kiora Gilkinson, Trenton and Temperance Rusk, Isabella and Addison Gingras, and Josie Dufreane.

Our deepest gratitude to Dr. Hendrich and the excellent staff at Au Chateau! Mom loved her stay with you all, and we thank you for making her last stay so comfortable.

As per Carmen’s wishes there will be no service or celebration of life.

Rest in Peace, Mom, till we meet again.
