Obituary for Donald Weir

Donald Rae Weir
March 3, 1946- June 24, 2019

It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of Donald Rae Weir, age 73, on June 24th, 2019. He was a husband for many years to Yvonne (ne Boilard); Father to Melissa (Stephen), and Jamie (Wanda); proud Grandfather to Chloe and Kelson. He is survived by his brother, Garry.

Having persevered through polio at the age of 6, Don showed a positive demeanour and outlook on life that proved that no matter what life throws at you, no matter how big, that it can be taken on. A smile, good conversation, and a “double-double” can lift anyone’s spirits.

Having studied clockwork and watchmaking in Switzerland, Don enjoyed his small business of many years, servicing the community as an expert in his field. Even as a retired watchsmith, he enjoyed conversing with as many people as he could while working on their watches, jewellery, and later, electronics.

Don was a strong member of the community, mentor to many, helping those in need of support or a good dose of laughter. He enjoyed the delight and glee of young children as they played with the controls of his chair, or took a wheelie ride on the back. Always teasing, he would offer to fix your problem with a hammer, or say “Why don’t we just cut it off, George?”

As a member of the Men’s Fellowship group, of the Pentecostal Church in Sturgeon Falls, Don enjoyed spending time with his brothers in Christ. He had a great following with his “Word Of The Day”. His faithful love for God guided his actions in the community.

Don was truly a man who aspired to live life to the fullest. He will be greatly missed by friends and family. ‘Til we meet again…’
