Obituary for Jeanne Eva Dupuis (Rifou)

Dupuis, Jeanne Eva (née Rifou) 1941 - 2022

It is with heavy hearts and great sorrow that we announce the passing of a strong and inspirational woman after a long hard fought battle with cancer on September 6th. Jeanne was a wonderful woman with a heart of gold who was a constant ray of sunshine in our everyday lives that will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Jeanne started her nursing career in the early 1960’s at the St-Jean de Bréboeuf Hospital, followed with a long term employment with Dr.Young and later at the West Nipissing General Hospital in various departments and capacities where she reveled in the social aspect of her employment. This outgoingness and love of meeting new people brought her to meet her best friend and soulmate, Merwin “Butch” Dupuis; which eventually led her to cherish the love of her daughters Daphne Prystanski (Larry), Shelley Ann Sénécal (Marcel) and Cynthia Hays (Jamie) as well as her firstborn special angel David Dupuis, deceased shortly after birth.

Throughout her lifetime, Jeanne thoroughly enjoyed the companionship of her longtime work colleagues; those of which she still fondly spoke of until her final moments. In her personal life, Jeanne had a great love for the finer things in life such as travel, shopping and dining to which she did with utmost grace, style and fashion always accompanied by family and friends. She was very proud of her upbringing and culture and she expressed this by instilling her values into the family by means of various holiday and everyday traditions ranging from decorating, cooking, entertaining as well as religious rites and customs. Included into these instilled family traditions were the typical summers of going to the family cottage on the French River where hosting family and friends, celebrating special occasions and having the occasional fish fry held a special place in her heart.
She had a deep affection for her grandchildren to which she was not only their greatest supporter but also their greatest role model who always had words of unconditional love and wisdom. She will forever be a beacon of light to all 5 remaining grandchildren Patrick Sénécal (Shea Smyth), Larissa Prystanski (Eric Burton), Troy Prystanski (Brianna Nummikoski), Chloe Hays and Taylor Hays.

Jeanne is survived by her loving siblings Denise Boyer (Gerard-predeceased), Carmen Murphy (Gilles-predeceased) and Rachel Pigeau (Wayne) as well as her sisters in law Sylvia Jaworski (Lorne-predeceased) and Marlene Lekun (Ernest-predeceased). She is predeceased by parents Laurent and Eva Rifou (Renaud) and her siblings Gaston Rifou (Ellen), Florence Duhaime (John “Babe”-predeceased), Marcel Rifou (Joyce), Gaetan “Buck” Rifou (Lila) and Lorraine Nault (Frank).

Jeanne’s presence will live on for generations to come as she left everlasting memories and her contagious smile forever engraved in the hearts of all that were lucky enough to have met her. A catholic service celebrating Jeanne’s life and last sacrament will be held on Tuesday September 13th at 11:00 am at Paroisse Sacré-Coeur in Sturgeon Falls. A joyous gathering of friends and family will follow at the Club Calumet to honor Jeanne’s beautiful and wonderful life.
