Obituary for Lisa Commanda

Lisa Jenna June, Commanda

March 1, 1994 - August 29, 2020

Lisa, from her first moments in the hospital, her first words, her first steps, the birth of her own daughter Skylar. Chi-miigwetch for the countless precious memories you provided us. We will cherish these memories forever.

Lisa made friends easily and adapted well wherever she went. In her lifetime she has lived at Dokis First Nation, Memquisit Lodge, Orillia, North Bay, Sault Saint Marie, Sturgeon Falls, Ontario and Mount Pleasant, Michigan.

She always knew where her real home was and felt a strong attachment to Nipissing First Nation. She would return home and formed a special bond with her aunt Krista, and her cousin Trisha. She attended Nbising Secondary School and once while attending school in Orillia she did a school project and presentation on her native culture. She would listen intently to the stories about her great grandparents and her great grandmother Pauline Shabogeshic. She was told recently how she and her daughter carried her grandmother June's and great grandmother Pauline's traits. At a young age Lisa and her sister Taylor once picked berries and handed the baskets to her great grandmother Pauline, a memory she cherished.

True to her native traditions Lisa loved the outdoors. She would gather firewood and sit out by the fire most every day, she loved to be out on Lake Nipissing and French River fishing summer and winter. She recently participated in her first successful moose hunt with her partner Jordan. She spoke of how exhilarating the hunt was and we let her know how proud we were of her and Jordan.

She leaves behind her partner Jordan and daughter Skylar Dokis, parents Bob Commanda and Rhea Chevrier, grandmother June Commanda, brother Ashton, sisters Taylor, Chelsey (Seth Prentice), Jessica, Melanie (Serge Sicard), niece Ava, nephews Rowan, Blake, Brent and her aunts and uncles. Predeceased by grandparents Harvey and Irene Chevrier, Maurice Commanda.

If you became her close friend, she felt a need to protect and look out for you. She is now a guardian angel for her daughter Skylar, her brother, her sisters, her niece and nephews and many friends and relatives.

We will love and cherish you forever Lisa.
