Thérèse Desbiens Forest (née Courtemanche) 1930-2023
It is with great sadness that we said goodbye to our dear mother. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones at the West Nipissing Hospital . She was born in Chapleau on March 31, 1930, eldest daughter of the late Orphila Courtemanche and the late Corinne Barnes. She was preceded in death by her sister Pauline, her brother Léo (Priscille), as well as her late husbands Albert Desbiens and Aimé Forest. Survived by her brothers Lionel (Judy) and Ernest (Robin) as well as her sister Rita. Thérèse also joins her two daughters Suzanne (Gunther Will)(late Marcel Desgroseillers) and Rose-Marie (Lionel Venne). She leaves to mourn her daughter Rachelle (Karl Gray) and her two sons Robert (Jocelyne Dauphinais) and Charles (Monique Lafond). Devoted grandmother of Jason and Tanya (Suzanne), Brigitte, Michelle and Danielle (Rose-Marie), Kyle, Casey and Josée (Rachelle), Karine, Mylène (Patrick Harrison) and Justine (Robert), David and Kristine (Charles). Great-grandmother of Dylan, Emmerson and Carter (Jason and Tara Will), Megan and Kaylee (Tanya and Paul Lewis), Sophie, Dania and Léo (Brigitte and Eric Cuillerier), Tessa-Rose and Eddison (Michelle and Kyle Dumoulin) Zaché and Guillaume (Danielle and Stéphane Marcoux), Dézirée and Logan (Karine and Trevor Berzins), Zoé (Justine and Marcel Lachapelle, Jaxson and Della (Kyle and Dori Gray), Sadie (Casey Gray), Forrest and Cooper (Josée and Mat) Cameron (David and Stephanie Desbiens), Caelin (Kristine and Conrad McFarlane). Great-great-grandmother of Blake and Brody, (Megan and Mike Creasy).
Thérèse has lived in several areas of northern Ontario and her fondest memories are those of the communities of Salton, Chapleau and Biscotasing. She frequently recounted her early school days spent aboard the renowned School Car, a traveling classroom that journeyed through various northern communities. She loved cross-country skiing and spent hours in the northern forests.Thanks to her father's employment with the railway, she had a pass for train travel; she frequently seized the chance to go shopping in Sudbury and spend time with her grandmother. In the later years, she loved spending days at the camp of Lake Soublière with Aimé, to host the family for meals and collect maple syrup. During the holidays, her house turned into a bustling gathering spot. The games of Tock were serious, so much that the women often accused the men of cheating. Meanwhile, Aimé filled the house with the enchanting tones of his mandolin and the joyous sounds of traditional sing-alongs, while she busily provided meals for her large family. Her last years were pleasurable and entertaining thanks to Charles' famous purchase, her iPad. She spent countless hours solving puzzles and Facetiming with family members. Mom, we only have beautiful memories of your generosity towards others, your love towards your family, your great sense of justice and your unwavering acceptance of others and their differences. Mom, for the time being, it's just a brief farewell, until we see you again.
The family would like to thank the long-term care staff at the West Nipissing Hospital for their dedication to mom. Thérèse a vécu à plusieurs endroits dans le nord de l’Ontario et ses plus beaux souvenirs sont ceux des communautés de Salton, Chapleau et Biscotasing. Elle nous a souvent raconté ses premières années d'école qui se déroulèrent sur le fameux School Car du nord, une classe ambulante déplacée par le train, d’une communauté à l’autre. Elle adorait faire du ski de fond et a passé des heures à faire des trajets dans les forêts du nord. Son père travaillait sur le chemin de fer alors elle jouissait d’une passe pour voyager par train; elle en profitait souvent pour aller magasiner à Sudbury et visiter sa grand-mère. Dans les années suivantes, elle adorait passer des journées au camp du lac Soublière avec Aimé, à recevoir la famille pour des repas et ramasser le sirop d'érable. Au temps des fêtes, sa maison était toujours remplie à craquer. Les parties de TOC étaient sérieuses, tellement que les femmes accusaient souvent les hommes de tricher. Comme trame sonore de fond, Aimé jouait sa mandoline et chantait des chansons à répondre, tandis que la mère s’affairait à nourrir la marmaille. Ses dernières années ont été rendues agréables grâce à l’achat de Charles, son fameux iPad avec lequel elle adorait faire ses casse-têtes et du Facetime avec les membres de la famille. Maman, on a que des beaux souvenirs de ta générosité envers les autres, ton amour envers ta famille, ton grand sens de la justice et ton inébranlable ouverture d’esprit. Maman, ce n'est qu’un au revoir.
La famille tient à remercier le personnel des soins de longue durée de l'hôpital du Nipissing Ouest pour leur dévouement envers maman. Des dons à son nom à l'hôpital seraient un beau geste de reconnaissance pour l’excellent travail du personnel.
